Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM Lens for Canon SLR Camera Reviews
16 of 16 people found the following review helpful Great value for the money for a walk around lens, May 20, 2012 By BruceB (Louisville, Kentucky United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM Lens for Nikon SLR Camera (Electronics) I bought this lens with a little trepidation, b/c of so much Sigma bashing going on out there, and its extended aperture to 6.3. However, I have other "good" lenses for specialized situations for my D7000, and didn't want to spend the money on Nikons 18-200 just for what I considered to be a general, walk around lens, so I tried the Sigma. (Just so you know I am not cheap per se when it comes to lenses, I also have the Nikon 16-35 VR; 24-120 VR; 105mm DC; 105mm VR macro; 50mm 1.4; 85 mm 1.8; and 80-200 2.8.)
The first time I used it was for a train event yesterday, which involved a whole lot of shooting variety: outdoor garden trains; train sets set up in basements; a toy train museum; a real train museum; and a real train ride. And I came home and pored over the images, trying to find fault. I did find a few minor faults in sharpness in some pictures, but, not having a Nikon 18-200 to compare it against, I don't know if those were any different than the Nikon would put... Read more
15 of 16 people found the following review helpful Amazing lens for the money., May 10, 2012 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM Lens for Nikon SLR Camera (Electronics) First of all, if you are an advanced photographer, please don't look at my review. I was just looking for an affordable lens that I can carry all the time instead of exchanging lens on a regular basis. I have a Nikon D3100 with the kit lens 18-55mm. The kit lens is very good, but my son started to play soccer and I realized that I needed something else. I looked at the price of the Nikor 18-200mm and it was way beyond my budget. I looked at this lens and I saw that it is kind of new in the market. I only found 3 reviews from Canon owners, but I did not think that was a big deal since Canon is also a top notch brand name. The lens are just a little bigger and heavier than the kit lens which is awesome. I am extremely happy with the pictures. The pictures from the soccer games look great. The OS system equivalent to the VR system for Nikon lenses works just fine. I have taken pictures in every single range from 18mm to 200mm and I could not be more pleased with the results. The pictures... Read more
14 of 15 people found the following review helpful Excellent travel lens for the money, April 18, 2012 By This review is from: Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM Lens for Canon SLR Camera (Electronics) This is my first non-canon lens. I am using it with T3i
The Good -
Solid build.
Compact and Lightweight.
Fast, accurate, and reasonably quite Auto Focus.
Good IQ for the price.
Zoom Range (29 - 320 for T3i)
Outdoor closeups are great, it gives smooth background blur @200mm.
The Bad -
It creeps. It can be locked only at 18mm.
Some stickiness in zoom mechanism at mid-range.
F6.3 is a minor issue, It affects only if you are shooting in poor light with above 80mm zoom and Evaluative metering.
Overall -
Nice travel/walk-around lens.
