Today's glass is light years beyond what we had even ten years ago, so don't be discouraged by the negative reviews you see. I mean that in a general way, not just for this lens. Anybody who has issues with any modern lens has WAY too much time on their hands.
Bad news first: It's cheaply made. The plastic feels REALLY flimsy. That's why it doesn't get 5 stars. It just feels cheap. You spend upwards of $700 on a camera and you get this piece of **** included. It's not fun to use. You feel like you have a child's toy, not state-of-the-art Canon engineering.
Still ... the lens works. And that's what it's all about. I don't know, long term, how it will stand up, but for now it's a very functional, very useful lens. On a crop-body camera like the T2i you get something like 30-90mm, your typical 3x range. At f3.5-5.6 it's a tad slow, but still useful. On a modern digital camera, with variable ISO, you won't even... Read more

Fast AF... For the money it's worth it.. Got it on Amazon for just over $100.00. If you look at another well known Electronics web site, they sell them for $179-$199. The only issue I have is not the lens, but the people who shipped it (sold it)... When I got it, it was rolling around loose in a box with no cushioning. I was concerned that the lens would be damaged or something because of the way it was shipped. After checking it over, found no damage. Works great... I think they need to ship their lenses with cushioning inside the box. It was fortunate mine came with no shipping damage. Also the fact that it came undamaged with the second rate packaging, shows that the lens is of solid construction, and for being plastic construction, it's a well-built lens.

My 30D came with a different lens, 28mm-155mm - I researched this online for about a week, and this is the standard all-purpose lens that usually comes with their cameras. I believe I paid $129 for it here - was $199 at other retail outlets - however, none had in stock anyway, so I'd have to wait for it to be delivered. I did not use th express shipping - just whatever was standard. Ordered it on Thursday afternoon and it arrived Monday morning - very quick. Looks brand new - works perfectly. Exactly what I wanted. I saw that sometimes it goes on sale at Amazon for $99, but I couldn't wait - I needed it and $129 was just fine. Better than ordering it at a retail outlet for $199 and having to wait.
